5 tips to take care Of Your Teeth During COVID-19 and Prevent a Dental Emergency

We don’t want your dental health to be put at risk during the COVID-19 crisis, and while we are only providing dental care at the moment, we urge our patients to do what they can at home to protect their dental well-being especially if they have Covid or are recovering from it !

Here are some oral healthcare tips to follow during this time:

1.Maintain Brushing routine religiously

Make sure you brush your teeth at least twice daily and after ever meal .
Just like you clean your hands , clean your teeth too !
Make sure you brush your teeth at least for 2 minutes to allow adequate time to ensure every tooth surface is cleaned thoroughly.

Pro Tip: Electric toothbrushes are great because they have built-in timers, but if you are using a manual brush, try to keep a small timer in the bathroom or use your smartphone.

2. Replace Your Toothbrush After Covid illness

Many people forget to replace their toothbrushes, we did a blog last time to tell about the importance of changing toothbrush !
Remember, if your toothbrush is old or worn out, it won’t clean your teeth effectively and you are putting yourself at higher risk of dental problems down the road, such as decay.

3. Flossing is a Must

Dental floss is a traditional and straightforward way to clean between your teeth, but if you have trouble with it, why not try interdental brushes or soft picks? Failing to adequately floss leaves approximately one-third of your tooth surfaces uncleaned, which greatly increases your chance of tooth decay and gum disease.
If you find it tricky to clean between your teeth, then talk to your dentist and they can give you some advice on how best to approach this.

4. Reduce Your Daily Intake of Sugar

When you frequently snack on sugary foods, it increases the acidity in your mouth. This acid attacks your tooth enamel and weakens it, eventually resulting in cavities. So be careful about your intake of sugar and if you want to snack on sweet treats, include them as part of your main meal, as it will reduce the amount of time your mouth is acidic and the potential damage to your teeth.

5. Stay Hydrated

Especially after an attack of Covid , hydration is your best friend for healthy teeth and body ! Your body needs a lot of water so that it can produce enough saliva to maintain your oral health. Why is this important? Saliva is a protective fluid that helps your mouth maintain a more neutral pH, and it washes away excess food particles, old skin cells, and bacteria. It also contains specific minerals to protect your teeth and lower your risk of decay.
So keep sipping warm water throughout and keep yourselves healthy !
