Good teeth, great health !

Hello friends, recently I came across an article that really caught my attention and I have shared it here!

https://www.foxnews.com/health/popcorn-stuck-mans-tooth-life-threatening-infection-open-heart-surgery

It was really a popcorn lodged in this man’s teeth that decayed causing infection to travel through the gums and the teeth nerves to the blood and to his heart and finally he had to have a heart surgery . This made me think about the importance of good oral health !Indeed good teeth, good health is not overvalued. In this coronavirus pandemic the one thing that we all need to focus on is building our good oral health so well that we can save ourselves from any flu, virus  or illness that travel through the mouth into our bloodstream and make us sick  .

Looking after your teeth and mouth is infact a sure shot way to ensure good overall health and less pain for your entire life. Thankfully, among all healthy life suggestions, tooth and mouth care is one of the easiest and the most beneficial to follow through in life. In fact, there is no reason – barring any genetic conditions or severe health issues – that you cannot keep your teeth healthy for your entire life. Having said that, tooth care is so much more than just about your teeth looking white!

Suppose you have a tooth extraction and you think your job is done, but no. Even after a tooth has been extracted, bacteria will still be alive in the mouth, even more so with those who have bad oral hygiene, ready and waiting to attack other teeth. Infections are very common following extractions. Depending on how bad the tooth was that the dentist removed, some antibiotics are prescribed to reduce the risk of getting an infection. In some cases though, even antibiotics can’t prevent an infection.

Therefore ,the best thing to do is to go to the dentist before you experience tough situations like  extreme pain, swollen gums, pain in your teeth under light pressure, bleeding and bad breath. Regular visit to the dentist ensures that no infection stays in your mouth. Good oral hygiene, ensures that your over all health is not hindered as the mouth is the beginning of many an infections !

If your mouth is clean and you don’t have a lot of germs, you can normally assume that you have good overall health. It is said in scientific circles that bad oral health is often an indicator of heart problems and vice-versa, bad oral health can lead to heart issues!

Good oral health, reduces your chance of viral infection or flu and helps you recover faster in case you do get one . It also enhances your immune system and it is imperative to achieve a healthy immune system which picks up our general health as well. The immune system is the first line of defence of our body against an alien microorganism entering the body. Stronger the immune system, the lesser chance you have of falling ill.

The best way to handle your good oral health is to have a diet loaded with veggies and fruits and making sure it is a balanced one. Different Vitamins are needed by the body  like Vitamin A, B, C, D and E can help increase the strength of the your teeth and your overall health.

Vitamin C is the biggest booster of all and lack of it can cause several diseases including Scurvy. You can get Vitamin C from citrus fruits like Orange, Grapefruit, Spinach and Strawberries. You can take multivitamin supplements from your doctor, however, natural intake through food is the best way.

To have a healthy teeth and good oral health, make sure you avoid or limit your intake of sugary drinks, candies, chocolates and deep-fried spicy street food or even junk food like burgers, pizzas etc. Apart from increasing cholesterol and making us fat, it also compromises our oral health and makes us more prone to diseases. Such foods are high on fat content and zero on nutrition thus, causing more trouble in our bodies than we think. They also inhibit the absorption of the good nutrients by the body, sugary , sticky foods stick to the teeth causing cavities and gum rot and thus reducing oral health and leading to infection.

With these little efforts and tweaks in your daily routine, we all can have a good immune system and dental health as well. A healthy body is not just about being healthy from the outside but also ensuring a stronger immune system that will help you prevent diseases later in life.

Remember , good oral health means good overall health and visiting your dentist frequently ensures that you have both of these! For the best dentist near you do visit Partha Clinics for all your dental needs.
